“The Don” embarassed by Williams’ signing

Ricky Williams signing leaves Alouettes coach embarrassed

DAVID NAYLOR

Globe and Mail Update

Ricky Williams’s first season north of the border continues to draw criticism, this time from within the Canadian Football League.

Montreal Alouettes head coach Don Matthews yesterday ripped both the Toronto Argonauts and the league office for their roles in the suspended National Football League running back joining the CFL this season.

“I’ve been in the league a long time and I’ve watched a lot of things happen,” Matthews said. “But I’ve never been as embarrassed as with how this situation has unfolded.

“To have the Miami Dolphins giving us permission to sign a player. To have the embarrassment of the suits in Toronto comparing [Williams] to Pinball [Argos head coach Michael Clemons],” he said. “The kid is a good kid, I have no problem with him. I have a problem with how the league put its head in the sand and pandered to the NFL. I’m embarrassed. I’m not being strong, I’m just being honest.”

:whs:

And yes, I’m hypocrite for posting on thread on Williams. Rolling Eyes

But, as usual, "The Don" makes some good points

Doug Berry Show Monday June 5th, 2006.

Wow, I thought I was one of the few around that didn’t like Kevin Glenn (based on the comments from people on this board)… that is aside from people in my direct circle, BUT after listening to the Doug Berry show, I actually feel a tad bad for the guy…the fans, announcers, and such have roasted him. Yikes.

Oh well, it’s nice to know that others feel the same way as me I suppose, that the Bombers are pretty well-rounded except in one position…QB.

Anyone else listen to this program today?

Howdy.
