Surfing trough some CFL new, I stumbled upon this quote about Roy and Barrets current contract, and it kind of made me wonder aloud about the SMS….

| "They’re going to get paid for the job they do this year. Because the football club and the board of directors have provided the resources to ratchet up the quality of the club and get us that coveted home playoff game, it would be premature at this stage to consider long-term contracts for anybody. |
Since the Riders were over last season, doesn’t this suggest that providing the resources can only be financial by the directors? If so, I guess the rumblings of acquiring the high priced help in the off season has put the Riders in the high rent bracket once again.
Here is my 2006 CFL Preview article. I also write weekly articles, and sometimes daily, recaping CFL games, and previewing the ones up ahead. if you are interested in those PM me with your email and I’ll add you on my list.
Anyways,

I’m surprised to see Riley Clayton cut. I thought that he’d make it.
Too bad fior Iain Fleming. Would have liked to see him stick.

The Bombers cut adrift 21 players today and, truthfully, there were no shockers.
I will say it’s tough to see Russ Michna go, simply because he was a class act. And Sidney Haugabrook showed some skills but was ultimately beaten out by younger, faster guys.
The decision to keep Brad Banks was the right one, it says here. You don’t cut players with that much upside and mobility, especially when Michna and Mike Quinn provide essentially the same skill set.
-In total, the cuts were SB Blair Atkinson, DB Robert Bean, DL Dante Booker, P Bryan Claybourn, DB Cedric Dickerson, DB Robert Grant, LB Donny Green, DB Sidney Haugabrook, OL Jermese Jones, DL Hakeem Kashama, OL Adam Krajewski, QB Russ Michna, OL Marc Parenteau, WR Chad Rempel, DE Dexter Ross, FB Lenard Semajuste, RB Onterrio Smith, RB David Stevens, S John Sullivan, DB Jazzmen Williams, K Kirk Yliniemi.
-Smith’s release raised some eyebrows, but if you were beamed down from outerspace and didn’t know the backgrounds of any of the running backs, he would have been ranked behind Charles Roberts, Henri Childs, Tellus Redmon (who was cut last week) and probably Canadian David Stevens. Stevens, by the way, was asked to join the practice roster but apparently will head home to consider a job as a firefighter.
-And, finally, from the deep thought file. Any one else notice something odd about the photo on the front of most newspapers yesterday, the one of al-Qaeda insurgent Abu Musab al-Zarqawi being displayed by the U.S. Military? Here’s my question: why did they go to the trouble of not only blowing up the photo for display, but then mounting it and putting it in a fancy-schmancy frame?
The axe that had been poised above running back Onterrio Smith came crashing down Saturday. The former NFL star was among 21 players released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as CFL teams reduced their rosters to the league-mandated 42 players (20 Canadians, 19 imports, three quarterbacks). Players who are released can accept one of seven spots on a team’s practice-development roster.

So far all of the Quarterbacks are still here. Spergon Wynn played 80% of the game last night, after Damon got knocked out, and Erich Crouch played the last few minutes. No appearance by Charlie Peterson. What does this all mean???
