Update on Jesse Lumsden

According to TSN’s Tillman:

Quote:
Here are 20 things I believe will (or could) happen in 2006.

10. Hamilton fans have much to be excited about in 2006, but the return of Jesse Lumsden will not be one of them. According to people in the Redskins organization, Joe Gibbs and offensive coordinator Al Saunders are very high on the talented McMaster grad. If the big back doesn’t make Washington’s active roster, he appears to be a lock for a well-paid practice roster spot.

Looks like the fans are pretty interested in Lumsden also:

man jesse looks big…….

I know, he looks like he has gotten bigger since he came here back in March. Has anyone really found if we can put him on the Practice squad as a protected prospect?

Glenn or Joseph….Who Would You Rather Have ??

I think they both have potential. I’ll still take Glenn though as I think he has the tools but lacks in experience and still makes rookie mistakes. He has the smarts to learn from them and become one of the elite. Some games last season he looked like a season vet but tailed off at the end when the Bombers were playing for nothing by Labour Day. Joseph has been a starter longer and IMO hasn’t really gotten any better since he became the main man for Ottawa. He’s older too so he should be in his prime right now. He’s got a very strong arm and has the ability to run but that usually becomes a real risk for injury.

CFL vs. NFL

My apologies if this is in the wrong place, or if this information can be found elsewhere.

I was surfing the Internet and ran across these scores from CFL/NFL exhibition games.

Code:
1950: New York Giants     20, Ottawa Rough Riders  6

1951: New York Giants     38, Ottawa Rough Riders  6

1959: Chicago Cardinals   55, Toronto Argonauts   26

1960: Pittsburgh Steelers 43, Toronto Argonauts   26

1961: St. Louis Cardinals 36, Toronto Argonauts    7

1961: Chicago Bears       34, Montreal Alouetts   16

1961: Hamilton Tiger-Cats 38, Buffalo Bills (AFL) 21

I found this incredibly interesting, and have a couple of questions. First, the games listed above came from NFL.com, a list of NFL games played outside the United States. Does anyone know if there were any NFL vs. CFL games held in the United States?

Second, according to Wikipedia, the games were played with a mixture of rules. Does anyone know anything about what rules were used?

Finally, does anyone know if the CFL has ever held any exhibitions with other orginizations (post-1950)?

Thanks for any help with any of this.

Tanenbaum sees the NFL in Toronto in 5 years

Did anyone catch George Gross’ barf-inducing strokejob of MLSEL President Larry Tanenbaum on Sunday? Larry let this appetizing little bon mot slip out:

Quote:
Tanenbaum also befriended Paul Godfrey when the latter was a councillor in North York and their friendship and business association continues to this day.

The two shared a dream.

"Paul and I were always interested in an NFL franchise for Toronto," Tanenbaum said. "I think we have a reasonable chance to land an NFL team in Toronto, perhaps in five years, or so."

Mind you, getting an NFL franchise and then winning the Super Bowl with it may be one of his unspoken goals.

So if Godfrey/Rogers and Tanenbaum join forces in an NFL bid, doesn’t it increase their chances of success, instead of one of them going alone?

In other words, it may be time to start worrying about the future of the CFL again. Those 2 together could undoubtedly come up with the $1B they would need to get started. I bet the plan has something to do with the new exhibition stadium for soccer, expandability plans.
