Memo to Hamilton Ti-Cat coach, Greg Marshall.

| Chill out, man.
Caught some of the Hamilton-Toronto CFL tilt on the tube over the weekend and the cameras love Marshall. Sure, he’s a good-looking son-of-a-gun, but the real reason they keep slapping his mug on the telly is that he always looks as if he’s about to snap. I realize football is a game that features a lot of intensity. However, if the boss always looks like a crazed maniac, isn’t there a danger of his players taking their cues from the coach and playing an angry and undisciplined brand of football? Also, if you’re always coaching "angry", how can you possibly boost your emotional output when you really need to push your players to a higher level? Quite simply, your emotions have no place to go. Trust me. I know how frustrating it can be on the sidelines. When I was 21-years old, I coached a Midget hockey team. In 14 games, I got thrown out by the refs three times and even though we were 13-1 at Christmas, the parents and kids got together and fired me because I was out of control. There’s obviously no excuse for coaching that way and anger management is something Marshall needs to be aware of, too. |
