The B.C. Lions overcame careless mistakes by their inexperienced backup quarterback Thursday night to wallop the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.
A great result for all in Winnipeg tonight.
Lions win the ball game and Barrin Simpson played every defensive down makes a whack of tackles. 1 interception, and a qb sack.
This was exactly what everyone wanted the Lions defence played like a team and won the ball game, and Barrin Simpson played like an allstar and lost the game.
I for one couldnt be happier for Barrin.
First let me say that the play had no bearing at all on the game. BC greatly outplayed the Bombers in every aspect of the game and fully deserved the win.
Late in the game, BC was conceding a safety. Their punter ran around the end zone and stepped out the back line. A backup Bomber linebacker (Baird) pushed him after he stepped out.
IMHO it deserved a 15 yd roughing call. The refs tacked on an ejection on top of the penalty. I don’t recall quite that severe a penalty being assessed in a similar situation. Did the TV viewers feel that it was warranted, or an overreaction from the officials?
Is this a new standard for ejection, and if so, will we see many more ejections this year?
We’ve raved about the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this season, given this team has already equalled its win total from a year ago. But as they rocketed to a 5-2 start expectations began to change.
And now this: after a 32-5 loss to the B.C. Lions last night that was just simply painful to watch, the Bombers  despite some big-time injures  have been exposed. They have no QB depth behind Kevin Glenn, their receiving corps didn’t step up in the absence of Milt Stegall and the defence is just on the field too long to be effective.
So now what? What can the Bombers do before they return after next week’s bye to stop the leaky ship from hitting rock bottom?
Here are a couple of suggestions:
-Deal a QB for a QB: Look, it’s obvious this team has no faith in Brad Banks. How else do you explain leaving Mike Quinn in the game when he threw for just 147 yards, was intercepted four times and fumbled twice. Banks is earning $100,000 and there are many in the league who still figure he has upside. Trade him while he still has some value for a more proven back-up.
-Upgrade the receiving corps. We think there is talent here outside of Milt Stegall and, perhaps, they can shine with Glenn on the mend. But we saw head coach Doug Berry in the ear of this crew early in the game but the results were dreadful. Charles Roberts led the Bombers with six catches for 78 yards. Step right up Stevie Anderson. And, although we figure he’s dangerous, it would be hard to argue the possible pursuit of Robert Baker, dumped by the Argos earlier this week.
-Feed ‘Blink.’ Roberts had only 10 carries last night - six of them in the first half. That’s not enough work, given his effectiveness (58 yards) especially running behind the two tight-end formation.
That’s just a start, look for our halfway analysis in Saturday’s paper.
Now let’s hear from the fans…

Iditotic !!!!!
Tonight a BB fan in ehat seemed the VIP section was blowing a ref type whistle stopping play !
just like a check rep. hockey game .
Has this ever happened at a cfl before ?
I don’t know if anyone else is having the same problem, but I just can’t keep up with the turnovers, interceptions, fumbles on top of fumbles. In fact, I’m not even sure this is football any more.
Have to hand it to the Bomber defence though, they’re good and worked hard tonight. Their backup QB was not quite as good.
Of course…neither is Pierce.
It’s really a calamity of errors. Great defence on both sides, and the backup QB’s are feelign the pressure. Bet they can’t wait until this game is over. Bet the coaches can’t either.
With the Argos and Ticats playing why not get someone who played QB for both?
Chuck Ealey will join Chris Schultz and me to preview the game. We’ll also do an NFL segment with Vic Carucci of nfl.com
