Teams most likely to make it to the Grey Cup

I realize it may be a little early for this, but considering how teams are performing this far, what team combos are most likely to make it to the GC.

What’s with Adam Rita’s hat?

Anyone else notice the Argo ballcap he wore once he went down to the sidelines after the first quarter? It looked to be Toddler size. Is his head that big? Or was he wearing a hat that was supposed to have been given to Damon’s grandchild?

John Averys footing ???

It’s sort of confusing me? I know not hard right !!!!

Any ways, Im reading posts today and the sun columns and everyone is saying how well JA did last night. I think it was like 75 yards.or 74 ?

Well I did see the game on the tube( 6 feet away from a 72 incher) in a Grand Bend dumb of a off site race track beting slum. And what I saw was a running back who had a decent O-Line and decent holes to run though but a guy slipping and falling almost every other play ???

It was weird like he had the wrong shoes on or had no cleats. Maybe its due to the fact he hasnt played in a year pretty well ?

I dunno???

Any one else notice???

He had a few carrys -yes, but never really broke one out without falling on his face?

He stinks, IMO !!!!!

Is it Paopao, the Players, Bad luck, refs? How to fix this?

HAMILTON — Jason Maas did not mince words.

Quote:
"This is the worst feeling I’ve ever had after a ball game and it’s not sitting well with me," the Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback said after his team delivered its second stinker in a row at home, losing 20-2 against the Argos last night at Ivor Wynne Stadium.

In reality, many other Ticats are underperforming. Offensive co-ordinator Joe Paopao’s unit isn’t scaring anybody.

"If we’re not going to open this game up and play it, then we’re going to get beat," Ticats coach Ron Lancaster said. "At no time offensively did we show we could move the football and that’s just not good enough."

"We’re digging holes for ourselves and the holes are going to be so big we’re not going to be able to get out of them shortly," Lancaster said.

What will help this team? Is it a matter of just changing a few plays, players, coach? Are they in a rut that they can find their way out of soon?

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Toronto/2006/08/13/1752425-sun.html

http://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Football/2006/08/13/1752259-sun.html

Is it the refs calling too many penalties, taking away the natural rhythm of the game. With all of the talent on the Ticat roster, they should be doing better than they are, much better.

What is up and how to fix it from a coach or owner perspective?

Can red hot Argos catch the falling Bombers ?

Its still early in the season and the argos with healthy DA back look awesome. Maybe it was KA and his terrible statergies. However are the argos good enough and do they have a easy enough schedule to catch the bombers whom seemed a lock tp host the semi final just two strange weeks ago ? The Boatman do have a few easy games against the Ticats , Eskys and Winnipeg them selves in the next month or so ???

NFL bits, etc.

Hey folks… space restrictions in tomorrow’s paper means the Bomber report has been held. Instead of waiting, I thought I’d post it here…

BOMBER REPORT
Next: Bye week. Game 10 vs. Toronto on Aug. 25.
TRACKING JONNY LONG BALL
Former Bomber punter Jon Ryan made his NFL debut in Green Bay’s 17-3 exhibition loss to San Diego, kicking four times for a 46.2-yard average. His rival, incumbent B.J. Sander, kicked three times for just 36.7 yards. Ryan did have poor hang time on one punt (just 2.94 seconds) when he had to handle a low snap. The Packers’ second pre-season game is this Saturday against Atlanta.
JOHNSON FAN CLUB
“It’s crazy how good Brent is. I was in awe. I was shaking my head, it was so amazing. He’s such a great player. He’s so versatile. We did our part by putting pressure on the quarterback when we needed to, although we didn’t get as many sacks as we wanted to, for sure. He (Bombers QB Mike Quinn) was getting rid of the ball a little bit faster than he needed to.” — B.C. nose tackle Aaron Hunt, in an interview with The Vancouver Sun, referring to teammate Brent Johnson, who had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a sack in the win over Winnipeg.
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES
Garrick Jones, who was absolutely dominant for the Bombers at left tackle in 2002 before heading to the NFL, has been cut by the Atlanta Falcons. Bombers GM Brendan Taman said he will be “inactive” for a couple of months, but the club does have an interest.
In the meantime, the Bombers have released middle linebacker Joe Tuipala.

ED TAIT THINKS YOU SHOULD KNOW…
PRINTERS PUMMELLED
Former B.C. Lion and CFL Most Outstanding Player Casey Printers’ first game as a K.C. Chief was hardly memorable. In fact, it was dreadful.
Printers threw an interception, lost a fumble, was sacked five times and took an intentional-grounding penalty that cost the Chiefs a field goal in a 24-14 loss to the Houston Texans.
“He’s got to go through that,” Chiefs coach Herm Edwards told The Kansas City Star. “It’s the growing pains of a quarterback.
“He was a little jittery at times. He kept his poise for the most part. He lost it a couple of times. That’s the process of trying to let a young quarterback play.
“I just don’t pull the rug out from underneath the quarterback. He’s going to learn a lot from this. He was a little bit down after the first series or so when he couldn’t get anything started. I told him: ‘Hey, you’ve got a lot of plays left. You’ve got to just keep playing. I’m not going to yank you out of the game.’”
Chiefs observers have said Printers’ play on Saturday wasn’t all that surprising, as he has been horrible through training camp. He’s listed fourth on the Chiefs’ depth chart.
“Never do I get down on myself at all,” Printers said after the game. “If you get down on yourself, you can’t come back and compete at the very end like we did.”
Should Printers be released by the Chiefs, his rights return to the Lions, but several teams would be lining up to acquire his services. If he waits until the off-season, a bidding war would begin immediately as Printers becomes a CFL free agent next Feb. 15.

WEEK 9 OVERALL LEAGUE AVERAGE @27,590 (27,265 in 05)

The numbers are in after week nine. The overall league average is higher by 411 and the comparison from the same time last year is also higher by 325. This despite the fact all teams with the exception of Winnipeg and Montreal are down from last year at the exact same number of home dates. The reason being of course, is the 06 figures do not factor in the Ottawa Renegades low numbers from 05.

On the individual team side, I note how Winnipeg is slipping somewhat and is only up by an avrerage of 1787(this from an earlier 3000+). Montreal is a constant and the only comparison will be the last game in the Big O and we will compare to 05.

After a healthy comeback, Calgary has slipped and is off 3621 average and so is Edmonton at 2157. Hamilton is virtually the same, down slightly at 407.

WEEK 9

current game(year ave. to date)— 05 game (year ave after same time)

4-5 HOME DATES

Winnipeg 25,033 5HD(25,946) — 26,595 (24,159)

Edmonton 39,599 5HD(37,030) — 44,624 (39,187)

Hamilton 29,010 4HD(27,840) — 27,443 (28,247)

Calgary 29,452 5HD(29,855) — 35,652 (33,476)

LEAGUE AVE. 06/ 35 games 27,590 — 05/ 37 games 27,265

TOP 5 CROWDS:

Edmonton (Cal) 40,491

Edmonton (Sas) 39,599

Edmonton (Win) 37,611

Edmonton (BC)) 35,035

Calgary (Sas) 34,319

WORST 5 CROWDS:

Note, excluding Montreal due to continuous sellout and small stadium.

Sask (BC) 21,082

Sask (Cal) 23,107

Winn (Edm) 23,521

Sask (Cal) 23,942

Sask (Tor) 24,967

Ottawa Renegades Website — Already an improvement…

Well,

I have stayed away from here for the most part this season with the demise of the Renegades — however, I have been following the league and it just doesn’t seem right without Ottawa — too be honest, it seems a bit to monotenous (one can only handle so many back to back match ups which seems to be the flavour of the day with only 8 teams).

Anyway, with all of the recent news about possible new owevership for Ottawa, I decided to skip over to the teams old/new web page and was surprised to see that it has been changed… (not much so far, however, it already looks better!).

Cheers,

Lukie

Much better Blue (Slam! Sports)

Some prognosticators predicted the Blue Bombers would be lucky to win even one of their first six CFL games this season. Well, Winnipeg has reached the midway point with a 5-4 record — already as many wins as they had all last year — and the Bombers still aren’t happy.

Bombers say ‘bye’ (Slam! Sports)

While they were in no mood to celebrate after two straight losses, the Blue Bombers were at least looking forward to their first break of the CFL season this week.

We’re #7 (in the world)

Paid average attendances for all the worlds professional sporting leagues puts the CFL at number 7 in the world rankings.

The top 10 rankings for avg attendances are as follows:

(2005 Numbers)

National Football League (USA) 67,593

German Premiere Soccer (Germany) 40,775

Australian Football League (Aus) 35,703

FA Premier (UK) 33,875

MLBaseball (USA/Can) 30,970

La Liga Soccer (Spain) 29,029

Canadian Football Leauge (Can) 28,438

NPBaseball (Japan) 23,552

Serie A Soccer (Italy) 21,968

Ligue 1 Soccer (France) 21,576

However in terms of total fans in a season the CFL gets smoked.

The tops in the world is Major League Baseball at 75 million, followed by the NBA, NHL, NPBaseball (Japan) and the NFL.

The CFL’s 2005 total league attendance of 2.3 million puts us well ahead of NFL Europe at .5 million and ahead of Arena League Football at 1.7 million. The CFL is slightly behind Major League Soccer at 2.9 million.
