IT’S ABOUT TIME

They say if you do something for 30 days it becomes a habit. Well, we just proved that theory wrong, or we just broke a bad habit. Yes Bomber fans, after not tasting a victory for some 40 odd days, something happened: WE WON.

Our game plan was based on the old school theory of “it’s not how you start, but how you finish”. We actually played that way in the first half of Sunday’s game on purpose.

Now if we go out and blow them out in the first half, guess what happens? Our biggest crowd of the year would have gone home, meaning food and drinks sales would have been down and that takes money out of the Bombers’ pockets. Just joking.

I think we came out in the first half and thought we were running a marathon, but finally realize in the second half that the boys from Regina were running a one hundred metre dash, and if we didn’t get moving, time would run out on us.

In the first half we basically played good enough to lose.

On offence, we had great field positions on numerous possessions, but failed to take advantage of any of them. And when we finally did something positive on offence, we would shoot ourselves in the foot with a penalty or a play where yards were lost.

On defence, too many big plays and costly penalties were the cause of the meltdown in the first half.

In the second half, a transformed team came out and played some exciting football.

Offensively I felt we left some points on the field, but we did come out and score two touchdowns which was enough to give us the lead, and the way the defence played, like the defence of old, we didn’t have to do much more.

Hopefully we can keep this ball rolling down hill.

A special thank you to all the fans who came out to the stadium.

God bless
Milton Stegall

Alouettes finally get Palmer

Interesting news out of Montreal this morning which indirectly affects the Bombers…

The Als have addded former NY Giant QB Jesse Palmer, the Canadian kid who starred at Florida and was last in the camp of the 49ers. And they’ve also added a couple of new receivers. The moves are interesting because it was thought Palmer would surface with a new Ottawa franchise believed to return in ‘07, even though his rights were owned by the Als.

Just a couple of weeks ago Montreal GM Jim Popp said he liked his team and wasn’t going to make wholesale changes. Funny what a four-game losing skid can do to that kind of thinking. Palmer instantly upgrades the QB depth in Montreal as - it says here - he is light years better than Nealon Greene. In fact, with a full camp he could even push Anthony Calvillo for the No. 1 job. And, obviously now, Montreal isn’t content with a receiving corps that has disappointed in recent weeks.

These are only names now, but it looks like the Alouettes - whom the Bombers and Argonauts are chasing - are considerably better on paper today.

Cheers
