Top 50 Players on Video…Leading to Comment on Winnipeg QB injury

Who are the CFL’s to 50 Players? Great promotion leading up to the Grey Cup in Winnipeg in mid November, especially for anyone who has any kind of history with the CFL. That’s a reference to us, “the old guys”.

Top 50 CFL Players (video vignettes here)

For Winnipeg, it’s supporters have desperately wanted their team to be in the Cup game at home. The team has been up and down all year, and ticket sales in this mostly homer town have shown it. Recently fans have been thinking this might just happen as the team seemed to be finding itself again. We now see again the importance of the recruiting staff, and backup personnel.

This was a bad situation waiting to happen and wasn’t addressed well all year. We didn’t get the help from the Great Playmaker in the sky who oversees this because that’s what it seemed we were depending on.

With Kevin Glenn’s injury, and without adequate reserves who can play at at least, 75% of the starter’s ability, we can only hope that maybe this week, our prayers will be answered, and Glenn will heal magically, or we’ll win a defensive struggle with an interception, and stick primarily to our running game and short flares.

Did I send you a tape of my work at Bomber Fantasy Camp this year?

WE DID IT FOR THE MONEY

That’s right, we lost the B.C. game on purpose. Why did we lose the game on purpose? More money.
I know it would have been great to have a home playoff game and have grandpa Damon Allen come in here and not be able to thaw out his old muscles, or watch Pinball Clemons face freeze with a permanent smile.
But we had other things on our mind — gym shoes (runners), groceries, and of course gas (petro). That’s right, these items are things that can be purchase with the perdiem we will now receive once we make our road trip to Toronto.
How much is our perdiem? That’s besides the point. The main point is that we will received this money.
So all the negative things that happen to us were actually thought out. From Doug Brown (White Shaq) and Kevin Glenn faking injuries, to all the other mishaps we created.
So with both of our playoffs games being on the road, expect to see all the guys with new runners, full stomachs, and of course a full tank of gas. Please keep this from Coach Berry.
P.S. For all you fans who don’t know Milt Stegall, I’m joking.
One must realize that all we do is play football. WE are not saving lives or changing the world. And don’t get me wrong, my intentions are always to win, but when we don’t, life is still good.

God bless
Milt Stegall

Blue Bombers among league leaders (OurSports Central)

WINNIPEG, MB - While overall team play was a trademark of the 2006 Winnipeg Blue Bombers, several individual players still managed to standout during the recently-concluded regular season.

Going out west

Last weekend’s win against the Stamps was huge for the Blue Bombers. The victory gives us a winning record of 9-8 and put us one step closer to a home field playoff game.

STADIUM06 03406.jpg Above all, last week’s win should be dedicated to the fans. We haven’t played our best ball at home lately, but the fans kept showing up. This week’s blog is dedicated to our Bomber fans for hanging in there at home.

player.jpg This week in Bomberland, time seemed to stand still. It was a long week, but the guys were still focused.

A lot of attention has been on Charles Roberts for winning the rushing yards race over Joffrey Reynolds. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Blink and say were all proud of you buddy… but stay off the Internet.

STADIUM06 04606.jpg Other than that, this week has been all business. The team definitely sees light at the end of the tunnel. If we are going to make our run for the Grey Cup, it starts now.

STADIUM06 01606.jpg STADIUM06 01206.jpg STADIUM06 00906.jpg STADIUM06 03706.jpg Here are some random shots of Canad Inns Staduim, inside and out. I ‘ve been taking these photos for the opener of my annual slide show. At the end of each year I take all my photos and arrange them to music. I usually present the show the last week of the season, so hopefully I’ll still have a few more weeks to work on it.

We are out on the West Coast this weekend to play the Lions in B.C. Place on Saturday night. I can’t wait to see the ocean.

If we win out in B.C., we’ll be hosting a playoff game at home, so make sure to catch the game so you know whether or not to buy those playoff tickets.

Farewell Hughie and other stuff…

VANCOUVER

Most folks in this town either grew up despising or respecting Hugh Campbell, who has been the face of the Eskimos for parts of four decades.

Count me among both. Growing up a Bomber fan it was difficult not to have a hate-on for Campbell and his Eskimo teams of the late 70s-early 80s. The Dieter Brock-led Bombers of that era were dominant, but were always in the shadow of Campbell’s Esks, who made six straight Grey Cup appearances and won five straight from 1978-82.

Later on, as I began covering the CFL in 1990 and onward, it was hard not to respect the man and what he represented to the Eskimos and the league. It was long joked that the ‘C’ in the CFL stood for Campbell — as in the Campbell Football League — because of the power he held at the governors level. You know what? He earned it. And the league won’t be the same without him.

We see the Argos re-signed Byron Parker today, locking up the dominant cornerback for the next few years. Lots of teams have been signing their core players to extensions this fall, capitalizing on the chance to give them upfront money now before the new salary management system kicks in next year. Maybe the Bombers are saving their announcements, but they’ve been eerily quiet on this front.

Just arrived on the Left Coast a few hours ago and, surprise-surprise, it’s raining. The Lions are expecting a plus-30,000 crowd on Saturday and I can’t wait. The last two years have been a drain on Bomber fans, but let me tell you it’s no fun covering a loser that isn’t even headed to the playoffs. And so, knowing that the Bombers could finish second with a victory in their last regular-season game is a refreshing change for the media, too.

Cheers
