CHTV reported tonight that the TiCats released Ranek today! Can he be picked up by another team at this stage of the season?
Oakland wide receiver Jerry Porter had his suspension reduced by the Raiders on Wednesday, allowing the disgruntled veteran to return to the club.
WINNIPEG (CP) - Kevin Glenn and Charles Roberts are putting personal accomplishments on the back burner when the Blue Bombers wrap up the CFL regular season in B.C. Saturday night.
Kevin Glenn and Charles Roberts are putting personal accomplishments on the back burner when the Blue Bombers wrap up the CFL regular season in B.C. Saturday night. While Roberts could reach a career high in rushing yards and Glenn could do the same in passing yards, the pair’s No. 1 goal is getting a win that would give the 9-8 squad second place in the East Division and a home playoff game for
It’s official. Tony Romo is the new starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
WINNIPEG, MB - An improved on-field product, the addition of several marquee free agents and a number of successful promotional initiatives all contributed to a major surge in attendance for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Canad Inns Stadium this season.

and why did you vote that way ?
(Vancouver) The BC Lions may have secured top spot in the West Division almost three weeks ago, but their East Division foes the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are taking aim at a home playoff date of their own.
Let me say this in the wake of the Bomber Most Outstanding Player Awards and after glancing at the other winners across the league…
-To all those Brendan Taman bashers who’d like to can the Bombers GM: don’t know if you’re scoring at home, but four of the six award winners named on Tuesday are newcomers. Rookie Arjei Franklin, is of course, new but Taman also helped lure Barrin Simpson (top defensive player) here in free agency, brought back Albert Johnson III (special teams) and drafted Obby Khan (O-line) in the Ottawa dispersal draft. Nobody asked me, but that’s a helluva offseason. We should also point out that Taman was the man who signed Charles Roberts (Most Outstanding) when other GMs passed and made the deal to land Doug Brown (Canadian) from Calgary in an absolute steal (two draft picks, one being current Bomber Jon Oosterhuis, the other Mike Labinjo, who is in the NFL and will never play for the Stamps).
-Glancing at the other award winners, I like the chances of Roberts and Brown possibly representing the East (divisional award winners will be voted on next) with Johnson III and Khan also having outside shots. Roberts will be up against Montreal’s Ben Cahoon, Arland Bruce III of Toronto and Tay Cody of Hamilton for Most Outstanding. If he can play well in B.C. this week, he should get the votes over Bruce. Brown, meanwhile, is up against Cahoon, Toronto linebacker Kevin Eiben and Hamilton’s Rob Hitchcock for top Canuck. Cahoon will naturally get a lot of love, but if the voters were paying attention this year they may have noticed Brown had arguably his best season.
-A couple of weird things from the voting results:
How can Edmonton voters pick big hog Dan Comiskey as the team’s top Canadian and then select Joe McGrath the top O-lineman?
Why is Avon Cobourne - a decent return man - the team’s top special teams player when kicker Damon Duval has been superb this year?
Cheers

It’s now official, the NFL will now regularly schedule up to 2 reg season games outside of USA beginning in 2007. According to Tom Wright, the first game in Canada won’t be until at least 2008, based on discussions the CFL held with the NFL some time ago (to avoid conflict with the 2007 GC in TO). It would be funny if the first game in Canada is in Vancouver or Edmonton or elsewhere, and not Toronto.
On a related note, the CFL should do the same within Canada, and arrange for an annual regular season (not a crappy pre-season) game to be played in a non-CFL city. With enough prep time, temp seats could be erected anywhere, and with corporate sponsors covering the cost, the "home" team can still collect the ticket revenue. It’s a smart way to grow the game. The list of sites to consider includes, among others, Saskatoon, Red Deer, Victoria, Kelowna, Thunder Bay, London, K-W, Windsor, Kingston, Niagara Falls, QC, Halifax, Dartmouth, St Johns, Moncton, etc etc
Obby Khan was shocked, Arjei Franklin was delighted, Doug Brown was satisfied, Albert Johnson III was grateful and Barrin Simpson was appreciative. That was the wide range of emotion in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers locker-room yesterday after the team’s award nominees were announced.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive line took another hit yesterday when left tackle Garrick Jones had to go home to Houston for personal reasons. “Garrick had to go back home today for a family medical emergency,” Bombers head coach Doug Berry said yesterday.
SLAM! Sports - He has a league-best 1,756 receiving yards and needs 281 more in Saturday’s regular season finale at home against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to break Allen Pitts’ 1994 record of 2,036 yards. “It’s possible,” he said. “But I’m going to approach this …
940 News - The East Division nominees are Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Charles Roberts (CFL-high 1,560 yards rushing), Toronto Argonauts slotback Arland Bruce III (71 catches, 1,246 yards and 10 touchdowns), Montreal Alouettes slotback Ben Cahoon (94 …
