Watching ‘54 Grey Cup

Watching the ‘54 Grey Cup from Varsity Stadium on CBC Grey Cup Classics, and you know what?

Once you get used to the black and white and the old film which has obviously faded with time, it’s actually a good game. Quite a bit of passing in this era of Canadian Football. (the league was not actually referred to as the CFL, yet)

Touchdowns were worth only 5 pts before convert and Edmonton has missed one on a bad snap. They led 11-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. I did not know Bernie Faloney played in Edmonton. I knew he was a Ticat but never knew he was with the Eskimos first.

The play-by-play announcers worked solo with no commentator beside them. Steve Douglas did games well into the 60’s as I recognize his voice from other classic games. He did the first quarter, while Jack Wells, did the 2nd quarter…….I think it’s safe to say Jack Wells working solo was a much better play-by-play announcer than his son, John Wells. :rotf: :rotf:

I do like Douglas’s voice better, but maybe it’s an eastern thing. Jack sounds too twangy.

Great GC seats available on Ticketmaster

Just picked up a pair of tickets on the 40 yard line 18 rows back on Ticketmaster. Looks like they released a bunch of prime tickets cause there are still more available in that area.

Sandy Annunziata Elected

Congratulations to former CFL player Sandy Annunziata on his election as a City Councillor in Fort Erie, Ontario.

Will another former Argonaut player (and current Head Coach) enter politcis next?

The real problem with the Ricky Williams fumble call

The call as made by Jake after the replay was correct as the rule stands. He did lose possession before his knee hit the ground. The problem is, it’s dumb to allow possession to change after the whistle has blown.

The rule as it stands essentially requires players to keep playing after the whistle, just in case the ruling on the field gets overturned. Using that logic, why didn’t the Argos regain possession on the play? Because several seconds later, Soward stripped the ball away from the Alouette who had recovered Ricky’s fumble. Why is it OK for possession to change after the whistle goes, but only once?

In the NHL, isn’t the rule that once the whistle goes the play is dead, period? Even if the puck goes into the net a split second later, if the whistle has gone, the call has been made and it stands. Why shouldn’t they do the same in football?

If I’m not mistaken, the decision to allow possession changes after a whistle started in the NFL and has now been adopted by the CFL. Anyone else think the rule should be that in cases of possession, the play is over and the call stands once the whistle has blown?

who you be cheering for on sunday?

With the two combatants for the 94th edition decided it’s a simple choice for most when picking a team to cheer for.

Generally people in the west cheer for the west team and east for east and you can’t get any more east and west than montreal and vancouver.

I’ve been told by a few people the Bomber fans will NOT be cheering for the Lions at this game and the crowd will be very much behind Montreal.

I guess we will see about that.
