Austin has credentials, but is a risk…
Interesting move in Regina today with the Saskatchewan Roughriders naming Kent Austin as their new head coach.
It had been reported by most media outlets across Sask. that Austin would be part of Eric Tillman’s new regime, but only as offensive co-ordinator and working with veteran Dave Ritchie.
But while Tillman should be acknowledged for not recycling an old name  as has often been the case in this league  there is a risk in Austin. He may be brilliant, as Tillman insists and he may be extremely well-organized. But he has never worn the big headset before and therein lies the risk. For every Doug Berry that comes in and hits a homer in his first try as a head coach, there is a Jeff Reinebold.
Finally, having played in Saskatchewan and led them to their last championship in 1989 before leaving in a public spat, Austin knows this as well as anyone - Roughrider fans will be with him all the way, win or tie.
Cheers
