Groundhog Day
After a week of two-a-days and predominately the same schedule, the monotony of camp has definitely set in.
Camp is a lot like the Bill Murray film Groundhog Day. If you haven’t seen the movie, the main character wakes up every morning on Groundhog Day and lives the same day over and over throughout the film.
A typical camp day starts around 6:30 am, after by a restless night with nightmares of sleeping through your alarm or something weird like showing up to practice naked.
Then it’s to the training room for pre-practice stretching and taping and hopefully getting something in your stomach to hold you over.
From there we head out to the field and begin our warming up process.
Everyone has their own routine until our walkthrough, where we go over the plays for the day so we are mentally sharp.
After that it’s non-stop compassion for about two hours until the morning practice breaks for 20 minutes. We head into the locker room grab a banana and a powerbar then it’s back out to the field for another two hours in the afternoon. When practice is over we get a break for about four hours.
Some guys lift weights, others hit the ice tube or catch a quick nap, and then it is back to Bomberland for meetings.
Our first set of meeting lasts about two hours as we watch the film from our morning practice.
We break for dinner, then go back to the stadium for our final meeting, reviewing the afternoon practice, which last until about 9.
It’s a pretty hard-core schedule and can push your body and mind to the limit.
Once the day is finally over we get the rest of the night to ourselves… only to wake up the next morning and start it all over again. Tonight week we have our first pre-season game against the Ti-Cats. Come out and check out the old and the new compete for jobs and the win.
