Big week in Bomberland

We’ll be watching with great fascination the goings-on in Bomberland this week as they ready for Friday’s final preseason tilt in Hamilton.

This team, as solid as it looks on paper, has some serious questions to answer, not the least of which is who earns the job as the No. 2 pivot behind Kevin Glenn.

But there are two outside linebacker spots open; a defensive tackle job beside Doug Brown; the secondary is hardly set in stone; the O-line’s starting five needs to be solidified; the receiving corps remains a question mark after Milt Stegall and Derick Armstrong and the kick return chores are still up for grabs.

And while nobody is saying as much, you can bet posting a win on Friday will be good for business - both at the ticket wicket and in giving this squad a boost before the regular-season opener in Edmonton on June 28th.

Disturbing story out of Vancouver on the weekend where a fan somehow slipped past security on to the turf at B.C. Place in a game between the Lions and Roughriders and then attacked a sideline official. Thankfully, Rider strength coach/personnel guy Joe Womack was there to subdue the idiot with the help of some players, but that incident — and the assault at last week’s Bomber game —  should be an alarm bell for both the security and teams.

Look, we’re not against having a few wobbly pops at a game and enjoying yourself — hopefully with a designated driver as a winger — but what brings a fan to jump onto the field and act like a buffoon is utterly ridiculous. Memo to teams: beef up security, keep an eye on those who have had too much and start using the jumbotrons and scoreboards to make more announcements about the consequences of acting like a fool at a game.

Cheers
