Berry remains calm

Winnipeg Sun - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers just finished the CFL pre-season by blowing a pair of games to what was the worst team in the circuit last year. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated Winnipeg 35-23 and 24-20. And what may be worse is that veteran slotback Milt …

You be the boss….

Put yourself in Doug Berry’s shoes for a moment, and try to pick the Bomber roster for ’07.

You’ve got some intriguing battles and some tough decisions to make - all with an eye on the salary cap.

Nobody asked me, but here’s how I’d line up my 24 starters:

Offence (five receiver set)
QB - Kevin Glenn

RB -  Charles Roberts

SB - Milt Stegall

SB - Terrence Edwards

SB - Jamie Stoddard

WR - Derick Armstrong

WR - Arjei Franklin

LT - Alex Gauthier

LG - Matt Sheridan

C - Obby Khan

RG - Andrew Greene

RT - Dan Goodspeed

Defence

DE - Gavin Walls

DT - Nate Davis

DT - Doug Brown

DE - Tom Canada

Will LB - Corey Jenkins

MLB - Barrin Simpson

Sam LB - Cam Hall

CB - Robert Bean

HB - Kelly Malveaux

S - Kyries Hebert

HB - Anthony Malbrough

CB - Davin Bush

Of course, there are some injury concerns what with Khan and Franklin, both on the mend. And as you can see, I moved Hebert back to safety just to get Jenkins on the field. But the hurts to the Canadians could mean that Jason Nugent starts at safety with just one Canadian receiver and Hebert back at WILL Linebacker.

Now you play the coach and name your starting 24 and we’ll compare notes…

Cheers

The Great..The Terrible Ref Calls For 2007

Well a new season is here for the teams, players, coaches, of course we fans and those men we all love to hate, at selected moments naturally, the refs.

So this year let’s look for those brutal calls, the great ones too and post them all here through the season. Then at seasons end we can do a poll to see who 13thman thinks are the best and worst officials. Who knows, maybe the replay camera will turn out to be our best ref

And no we can’t start by saying Jake Ireland wins the worst hands down :tease:

Sonoma Pre Race Thoughts

As usual there were the patented explanations from Knaus and Letarte claiming they were working in what they thought were grey areas of the rule book…..going by Nascar reactions it wasn’t much of a grey area.. teams were told not to

Argo cuts

http://www.canoe.ca/Argos/News/2007/06/23/4284765.html

The most surprising release would be that of non-import defensive lineman Matt Kudu but there is nothing earth-shattering as far as the cuts go. Fifteen new players will appear on the Argo roster to start the season which means that one-third of their roster has been turned over since last season.

Lions Cuts

R - Mike Lindstrom

DB - Konrad Waisela

DB - Lionell Green

R - Kendrick Jones

Lindstrom would be a good PR guy in anywhere except Calgary or BC. Jones gets bumped by Cory Rodgers. Waisela returns to UBC for another year.

Myers has two late field goals as Ticats beat Bombers 24-20 in pre-season game

“I felt good with what I was seeing (in the game)”

(CP) - Hamilton head coach Charlie Taaffe has given his starting quarterback the green light and Jason Maas believes his arm is up to the task.

Maas completed 10 of 17 pass attempts for 114 yards and one touchdown as his Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-20 in CFL pre-season action at Ivor Wynne Stadium on Friday night.

Maas, who underwent surgery to his throwing arm in the off-season, played in his first game since missing the final three of 2006 and not making the trip for Hamilton’s pre-season match-up last week. Read more
