Briarbrook holds lead in city golf (The Joplin Globe)

While the individual battles are close, Briarbrook Golf and Country Club holds big leads entering the final two rounds of the men’s and women’s city golf tournaments.

    Friends and family held a prayer vigil Friday evening for Daniel Davis. He was shot and killed Monday night on Fairbanks street. Daniel’s mother says his friends know who killed him and that they should come forward with information.

    Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy’s budget proposal includes cuts that will impact programs for city kids. A $300 thousand cut could mean the end of city funded after school recreation activities at half a dozen city schools. The South Avenue Recreation Center will remain open also be reduced.

    We may find out soon who will be the new president of Monroe Community College. The board of trustees said in late April it would reserve a decision until May 17. That’s when it’s likely to go into executive session and could vote afterward.
